The Senior Newsletter Editor will manage the production and growth of The Post and Courier’s newsletters. He/she will collaborate with the marketing team and writers on content creation, strategy and marketing tactics to help grow the audience and ensure the paid and nonpaid newsletters’ success. The Senior Newsletter Editor will also support marketing efforts by creating emails and supporting overall marketing strategy to grow our digital audience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with the newsroom and digital subscription marketing team on developing and executing a content and marketing strategy for The Post and Courier’s paid and non-paid newsletter products that is informed by audience metrics, usability and news judgement
• Build, grow and nurture newsletter subscriber base
• Develop reports on all newsletter metrics, utilizing data to grow newsletter audience and revenues
• Track and report out relevant metrics and data for acquisition and retention of newsletter audiences; own the data and share it with stakeholders across departments
• Manage acquisition funnels for newsletters in Campaign Monitor, Piano, Hubspot and other platforms as needed
• Create habit-forming newsletter experiences while staying informed of newsletter subscriber trends
• Work with newsletter writers to establish the tone, format and frequency of each newsletter and define best practices
• Communicate with newsroom leaders and other departments to keep various teams informed of product enhancements, success metrics, rollouts and other activity with newsletter products
• Collaborate with digital marketing manager to create email marketing campaigns to convert newsletter readers into paid newsletter subscribers, including managing segments
• Work closely with the audience development, marketing and sales teams to find opportunities to build audience and grow revenue on newsletters, particularly with paid newsletters
• Take lead on external partnership management as related to newsletter growth and subscriber opportunities
• Work with newsletter editor to track conversion metrics for all newsletters
• Work cross-functionally with multiple teams to manage technical platform for newsletters
• Be a champion for newsletters and a resource and mentor for understanding industry trends
• Act as an advisor for community newspapers and other departments on newsletter growth, conversion and segments
• Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic news judgement; a journalistic foundation as a reporter is required
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work independently
• Strong attention to detail and project management skills
• Experience formatting HTML, creating or using email templates and sending email newsletters - Experience in editing web-based page layouts, understand design, have experience editing/copywriting for email-based publications
• Ability to communicate and provide feedback effectively
• Ability to move projects forward in a collaborative environment
• Marketing experience, focusing on funnels and segments to drive conversions
• Reliable access to internet services
Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field
• 3-4 years demonstrated journalism experience
• 2-3 years demonstrated marketing experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organization and prioritization skills with excellent follow through
• Flexible schedule may be required to meet seasonality of some newsletters
• Ability to work independently remotely, if necessary, in a suitable workspace that meets safety guidelines
