The Research Director is responsible for maintaining and expanding The Business Journal’s database of companies in the greater Portland region, and other information relevant to business decision makers; producing Lists, directories and other research-based special publications. The Research Director also participates on enterprise reporting projects with the newsroom team.

The Research Director produces the Portland Business Journal’s weekly lists and, in collaboration with editors and reporters, stories and graphics to explain and magnify interesting trends, providing deep views into the rankings. In collaboration with other members of the editorial team, the Research Director also creates shorter, daily lists for our digital audience and assists with other research-driven news projects. The Research Director identifies and surveys companies to produce accurate lists with full participation of relevant companies or other parties. The Research Director maintains a database of companies and sources to be surveyed, accurately enters and sorts survey data, and is responsible for producing the annual Book of Lists.
