Popular Mechanics is looking for a regular contributor to write about all things physics

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Popular Mechanics brings the latest news on innovations and inventions across the automotive, DIY, science, technology, and outdoor spaces. With practical home-improvement and auto-maintenance tips, digital troubleshooting, and investigations of issues from online privacy to environmental challenges, Popular Mechanics serves as the essential guide to a well-informed, hands-on, tech-savvy lifestyle.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We will work together on a few paid pieces at first to see if it’s a good fit, but ideally establish a more predictable relationship with four assignments per month.

To be clear, this would be a mix of assignments we come up with together, and pitches you cook up for Pop. Lots of room for creativity and flexibility here.

Here are some recent Pop physics stories I’ve loved:

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  •  Short pieces (~600 words give or take) are $400 each. Longer or more deeply reported pieces are $1/word up to 800 words. Higher fees avail on a case-by-case basis.
