Politico seeks education reporter

Politico is seeking an energetic, enterprising reporter to join its education team, a group of journalists with a record of groundbreaking and authoritative coverage of K-12 and higher education. The right person for this job in Politico’s fast-paced newsroom is bursting with story ideas and curiosity, passionate about journalism, hungry to land scoops and comfortable working as a collaborative member of a team.

DUTIES:

  • Break news on your beat that delivers value to both subscribers and homepage readers
  • Quickly and accurately write breaking news stories
  • Produce clear and thoughtful enterprise that advances the compelling education stories of the day
  • Identify trends in legislative policy
  • Recognize state-level education issues that feed into Washington
  • Take turns with other team members as the lead writer of the widely read Morning Education newsletter
  • Collaborate with members of your team and education reporters in state capitals

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience breaking news on education policy
  • Demonstrated ability to write both spot news and enterprise
  • Ability to juggle tight deadlines and a demanding schedule
  • Polished writing skills
  • A collaborative and creative spirit
  • Experience in Washington or covering national policy is a plus
