Politico is seeking an ambitious reporter for a high-profile role authoring Morning Trade, our agenda-setting trade policy newsletter. This job offers a chance to connect with an influential audience on some of the Trump administration’s signature issues — tariffs, foreign investment and industrial policy.
Who You Are We are looking for an enterprising reporter who knows how to blend deep reporting with compelling storytelling to produce scoops and demonstrates a passion for digging into consequential details. The right person for this role has a global mindset that appreciates the way economies around the world intersect and can collaborate effectively with colleagues in London, Brussels, Ottawa and beyond.
What You’ll Do The successful candidate will be the primary face and voice of our newsletter, which runs on weekdays, combining original reporting, analysis and aggregation to serve an audience of well-read policy professionals and others eager to understand the world of trade.
In addition to helming the newsletter, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to write strong enterprise stories for all of POLITICO’s platforms.
What You’ll Need
- Strong beat experience. We’re looking for evidence of dominating a beat through frequent scoops and enterprise.
- Writing chops. Flair and style are required; readers will be paying to read your writing. The ability to write clearly and with authority — but not opinion — is a must.
- Initiative. A demonstrated track record of developing a network of sources both inside and outside of Washington is critical.
- Team spirit. You must be able to work as part of a team and collaborate on beat coverage and in-depth pieces.
Please submit a cover letter, resume and 3-5 clips of your writing (as PDFs, if your work is behind a paywall).
