Politico seeks a New York editor

POLITICO is seeking an experienced and enterprising editor to oversee its editorial operation in New York City. The editor will lead an ambitious team of journalists covering the intersection of policy, politics and power in the nation’s biggest city, and will work with our Albany-based New York Editor to help oversee our coverage of statewide politics.

New York is a key pillar of POLITICO’s growth strategy in coming years. We’re looking for an expansive thinker who can take our work to new heights, devising fresh angles, exploring new storytelling formats and plotting out our next chapter in the Empire State. This is an important role in our newsroom and presents an enormous opportunity to set the agenda in a global seat of power, one where our distinctive brand of journalism consistently stands out from the competition.

What You’ll Do:

  • Run a team of high-energy reporters covering city government, politics, campaign finance, health care, education, energy, housing, real estate and more.
  • Devise an editorial strategy that serves an informed, influential audience of professional subscribers while also reaching consumers in New York, Washington and across the nation.
  • Deliver a steady cadence of innovative, thought-provoking enterprise stories and scoops.
  • Edit a mix of full-length articles and short pieces, both breaking news and enterprise.
  • Ensure our political and policy newsletters continue to be essential daily reads in New York’s corridors of power.

What You’ll Need:

  • A clear vision for how to cover New York in new and exciting ways that expose not only what is happening, but why it is happening and what it means.
  • A deep well of ideas and a strong sense of how to execute them.
  • High-level writing and editing skills, with the ability to deliver stories for both niche, local readers and to a broader consumer audience.
  • Strong leadership skills and an active, hands-on approach to editing.
  • A collaborative spirit to working across the team and the overall newsroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor reporters of varying experience levels.
  • Ability to juggle tight deadlines and a demanding schedule.
  • A rigorous commitment to fair-minded, nonpartisan journalism.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in New York, NY is $120,000.00-$150,000.00 per year.
