Politico is seeking an experienced journalist to join our health care team and lead coverage of the Biden administration’s efforts on Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act – programs that shape the lives of most Americans. This reporter will focus on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services headquarters in Washington and the relationship among the agency and officials at the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress and the White House.
The successful candidate will have experience navigating the federal government and will understand Washington’s regulatory process and how health insurers, hospitals, doctors and other health providers get paid. You’ll be expected to write authoritative stories for all Polituico platforms exploring the political forces shaping Washington’s approach to these and other high-profile health care issues.
We’re looking for an enterprising journalist with deep curiosity, excellent news judgment and a track record of revelatory storytelling — someone who is eager to scoop the competition while also delivering deep dives. You should be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues across a large health care reporting team and must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a highly productive, fast-moving newsroom.
What you’ll need:
- Experience covering federal health care policy
- Proven ability to dig up scoops in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Ability to work collaboratively across beats
- Demonstrated track record of writing accurately, thoughtfully and quickly across story forms.
