The Reporter/Correspondent of Planet Money participates in all aspects content production across platforms, conducts studio and telephone interviews, reports on domestic and foreign news, anchors the podcast, and serves as a public representative of Planet Money and NPR News. This position is based in New York City.

Essential Duties Include:

Develops and executes ideas/proposals for reports across platforms as part of the Planet Money team.

  • Conceives, proposes, plans, and researches ideas for blog entries, podcasts and radio program segments.
  • Develops news sources and keeps associated files.
  • Participates in departmental planning for coverage.
  • Contributes Planet Money blog and frequently develops original Web text, interviews and reported pieces, podcasts, and radio stories.

Gathers information and materials for reports and programs.

  • Covers stories as assigned by Planet Money Supervising Producer and may travel to do so.

Gathers materials by recorder or in photographs, video and otherwise through interviews, press conferences, and direct coverage of events.

  • Advises manager on technical support required, as necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Prepares and presents special reports, series, documentaries, and program segments examining important subjects in depth.
  • Collaborates with Planet Money partners as assigned in developing content.
  • Does investigative reporting, including the generation of ideas and development of plans for such reporting.
  • Makes occasional trips that produce a variety of major stories, features, and program segments for various NPR platforms.
  • Possesses and uses of extensive broadcast production skills in the preparation of program materials and segments.
