“Planet Money” seeks assistant producer

Be a part of the small, collaborative team that produces Planet Money, one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Help craft the sound of the show. Pitch interesting story ideas. Assist the hosts and reporters with finding great guests and compelling sound. Find and help produce freelance pitches. Contribute audio, digital and social media content.

Work under the supervision of the Supervising Producer for Planet Money.

Essential Duties Include:
  • Pitch stories for both podcast and radio.
  • Conduct story research
  • Record sound in the field
  • Help identify sources, book interviews and pre-interview guests
  • Write scripts and gather additional audio elements for podcast
  • Provide feedback in podcast edits
  • Direct recordings in studio
  • Mix and post the podcast
  • Produce podcast and radio buildouts for the Planet Money blog
  • Promote Planet Money content on Twitter and Facebook
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Required:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years’ experience in news journalism
  • Familiarity with audio recording equipment and audio editing software
  • Experience producing in and operating digital audio self-op facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. Ability to handle more than one assignment at a time; ability to prioritize, anticipate and communicate effectively.
  • Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
