Philadelphia Tribune Media Group seeks a city editor

We are currently seeking an energetic, creative, and hands-on City Editor to join our editorial management staff. This key position is a great opportunity for an experienced reporter and or copy editor. You will be involved in supervising several sections of the newspaper, including developing content, writing headlines, assigning stories and photos and pulling wire. In your role, you will report directly to the Managing Editor and work with a self-motivated team of reporters and editorial professionals. You will be representing a newspaper with an unprecedented legacy within the region’s African-American community and also played a significant role in some of the most pivotal events within the last 100 years in African and American history.

Job Requirement:

  • Provide oversight for assigned sections for Tuesday and Friday editions
  • Write editorials and current issues
  • Scan wire news service for updated stories
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Must have newsroom, management experience and be skilled at coaching journalists and improving performance
  • BS/BA degree in Journalism with a minimum of five years professional experience with a magazine or newspaper preferred
  • Good news judgment, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to write editorials
  • Knowledge of AP Style, Microsoft Office and Internet browsers
  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills
