Philadelphia Biz Journal seeks a digital producer

The Philadelphia Business Journal is looking for a Digital Producer to join our award-winning newsroom.

The person in this role will curate and craft timely and compelling digital content that drives loyal engagement, grows audience and extends the Business Journal brand. The Digital Producer will report and write multiple news stories on a daily basis, while also working with reporters and editors to create visual and interactive features that enhance our digital storytelling. In addition, they will be tasked with implementing our newsletter strategy across several editorial email products.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced newsroom that knows its audience exceptionally well and values scoops and exclusives above all else. Candidates should be able to balance both breaking news and feature stories.

Duties
• Manage day-to-day digital operation of business journal newsroom
• Curate and update breaking news content
• Report and write original content
• Acts as the newsroom lead in managing and organizing event-related content
• Generate and execute digital content ideas and regular features
• Work with reporters and editors to ensure excellent digital beat coverage
• Produce interactive features, galleries and video
• Manage newsroom social media feeds
• Support reporters’ and editors’ social media efforts

• Excellent reporting and writing skills
• Creativity and a desire to work collaboratively
• A keen interest in what’s new, what’s next and what’s breaking
• An ability to balance high standards for content quality with ambitious engagement objectives
• Digitally fluency and social media savvy
• Comfortable working in a content management system
• Familiarity with business topics and terminology
• Multimedia acumen, particularly photography skills and photo editing experience
• Comfort with data analysis and building infographics
• Strong headline writing and copy-editing skills
• Some familiarity with SEO and site/traffic/engagement metrics

Experience
•  1-2 years as a writer or reporter (business reporting a plus)
•  Hands-on involvement with editorial newsletters and alerts

Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
