Pew Research Center seeks an audience editor

The audience editor is a senior digital strategist working with a small team managing Pew Research Center’s direct audience outreach via social media, email and emerging digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be passionate about experimenting with new forms of digital engagement, have excellent news and editorial judgment, and be eager to help the Center develop new relationships with diverse audiences. This position reports to the associate director, digital outreach. The audience editor is a strategic and innovative collaborator who will ensure the Center’s diverse body of work is presented in an accurate and engaging way to a broad digital audience.

Key duties:

  • Lead planning, production and promotion of Center research findings on social media, email and other digital platforms
  • Develop and coordinate editorial calendar and campaign planning with enterprise editorial team for direct audience outreach
  • Collaborate with communications, design, video and research staff across the organization to create compelling, high-quality content for Pew Research Center digital platforms
  • Work with organizational leadership to develop campaigns to support larger Center communications and outreach goals
  • Advise Center researchers on best practices for audience outreach and engagement
  • Plan and execute paid advertising campaigns and measure their effectiveness
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in audience engagement via social media, email and emerging platforms

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong interest in Pew Research Center’s diverse body of work and in exploring innovative ways of promoting data and research via social and digital channels
  • Excellent news judgment, writing and editing skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Experience managing multiple institutional social media accounts and email outreach, preferably for a research or news organization
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately while meeting deadlines
  • Experience with various analytics tools and paid digital marketing campaign planning

Education/Training/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
  • Seven+ years digital media experience including managing branded social media accounts, ideally at a think tank, research or news organization

This position typically starts at $90,000 per year.
