Palm Beach Post seeks business editor

As a digital leader of reporters, the business editor of the Palm Beach Post will be responsible for covering subjects related to county, state economy and consumers. Special focus on passion topics of real estate and retail news. Emphasis on core geographic areas of Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach and Boynton Beach. Reacts to breaking news, pushing reporters to “localize’’ national stories that affect our readership.

The business editor will be a company leader in digital innovation in “daily’’ coverage as well as longer-range projects and features, emphasizing local businesses and personalities. The candidate must be fluent in social media platforms and comfortable with data analysis and new ways of story-telling. Will also adopt a “watchdog’’ approach to beats. Encourages and helps reporters to break from the traditional approach to writing news. Stories for print should advance the topics, providing fresh voices, analysis and perspective. Encourages creative, distinct writing with clear “voice.’’

·       Creates digital plans for content, including photo, video/audio, charts, graphics, polls, records, primary and emerging social platforms.

·       Supervises reporters covering subjects related to the economy and consumers.

·       Generates consistent flow of story ideas and recognize unique angles relevant to our readership, unafraid to take risks and pursue bold, innovative approaches.

·       Engages reporters and empowers them to help develop ideas and angles.

·       Engages reporters throughout the reporting and writing process, working as a positive, motivating influence on them.

·       Creates an atmosphere to react to breaking news and generate groundbreaking, high-level journalism pertaining to your particular group’s subjects.

·       Contributes to decisions about story play in print and on Web.

·       Organizes schedules, capable of keeping track of multiple reporters, stories, projects, upcoming events, and deadlines.

·       Manages performance of staff, including setting expectations, reviewing progress, taking corrective action when necessary, giving useful feedback and writing performance evaluations.

·       Recommends hiring and firing, disciplinary actions and promotions to the Content Editor.

·       Regularly coaches staff in the improvement of writing and other skills, striving for excellence.

·       Attends several daily and weekly budget and planning meetings.

·       Works quickly and accurately on deadline.Demonstrates accuracy, taste, tone, fairness and clarity.

·       Reads the newspaper daily and monitors the Web site to maintain the familiarity of company products.

·       Researches and applies new best practices for continuous improvement.

·       Understands and adheres to libel law.

·       Bachelor’s degree in related field from a 4-year accredited college or university preferred.

·       5 or more years of newsroom experience required.

·       2 years of Digital media experience required

·       In-depth knowledge of content and line editing required.

·       Supervisory experience managing several employees required.

·       Valid Florida Driver License
