Owensboro Times seeks a news & sports reporter

Owensboro Times is seeking a skilled and passionate reporter to join our team at an innovative digital newspaper. The ideal candidate will have a background in news reporting, plus some experience in sports coverage as well as managing social media platforms and strategies. Experience with photography a plus. This is not a remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and report on local news
  • Find and highlight community features
  • Assist with some local sports coverage
  • Cover a variety of topics including breaking news, local events, politics, business, entertainment, sports, and more
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community sources
  • Utilize digital tools and platforms to enhance storytelling, including multimedia elements such as photos, videos, and interactive features
  • Monitor news developments and engage with readers through social media platforms
  • Adapt to evolving digital journalism practices and technologies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
  • Proven experience as a reporter or journalist
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interviewing skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and strategies
  • Strong understanding of AP style
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
