Owensboro Times is seeking a skilled and passionate reporter to join our team at an innovative digital newspaper. The ideal candidate will have a background in news reporting, plus some experience in sports coverage as well as managing social media platforms and strategies. Experience with photography a plus. This is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and report on local news
- Find and highlight community features
- Assist with some local sports coverage
- Cover a variety of topics including breaking news, local events, politics, business, entertainment, sports, and more
- Develop and maintain relationships with community sources
- Utilize digital tools and platforms to enhance storytelling, including multimedia elements such as photos, videos, and interactive features
- Monitor news developments and engage with readers through social media platforms
- Adapt to evolving digital journalism practices and technologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
- Proven experience as a reporter or journalist
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interviewing skills
- Experience with social media platforms and strategies
- Strong understanding of AP style
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
