Ohio public radio station seeks economics reporter/ME

91.3 WYSO Public Radio in Yellow Springs, Ohio, seeks an experienced, energetic journalism professional with a commitment to covering local news and telling the stories of the community on multiple platforms.

The Economics Reporter/Managing Editor will present stories about local and regional economics and business issues and will assign and edit stories by news team members.   The ideal candidate will have a strong track record as a reporter, writer and editor and some supervisory experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a reporter aspiring to become a News Director and to help build a news team in an innovative, collaborative, supportive environment in one of the midwest’s most beautiful and engaged small communities.

The WYSO primary coverage area includes the city of Dayton in southwest Ohio and the surrounding nine counties with a potential FM listening audience nearing 1.9 million.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide economic and business reporting several times a week for both on-air and online.
  • Assign, approve and edit local stories for air and web
  • Exercise solid journalist judgment consistent with public radio news programming standards and values and serve as the final arbiter in decisions of journalistic ethics and practices.
  • Collaborate with WYSO management to create vision and direction for the growth of news content on multiple platforms.
  • Proven ability to produce news content for both on-air and web delivery under a deadline. May be called upon to host live event coverage, host call-in or talk show programs as needed.
  • Participate in station events and fundraising. Must demonstrate a deep commitment to the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.A., B.S. or equivalent required with at least three years of journalism experience, including some supervisory experience or its equivalent in a newsroom.   Candidate must demonstrate superior attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities while adhering to deadlines.  Candidate will be collaborative and collegial, contributing to a positive, community-minded work environment.
