Ohio newspaper seeking business editor

The Repository, a 60,000 print daily/100,000 unique online daily in Canton, Ohio, needs a business editor to lead a growing reporting team and range of business-related products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily Business and Sunday Your Money pages in print and online for The Repository, including all content and staff; also responsible for The Stark Business Journal and other niche sites and publications as directed.

This is an exempt position. The business editor will report directly to Managing Editor Scott Brown.

Duties:

• Sets priorities for business content for print and online, assigns staff to generate content that meets those requirements.Maintains a long-term planning list of story ideas.

• Maintains Business section content budgets: makes sure business budget is integrated into newsroom daily planning budget and schedules.

• Works with newsroom leadership team to envision and execute daily and enterprise reporting.

• Develop and create content and projects for The Stark Business Journal.

• Work with the Managing Editor and Executive Editor to achieve all financial goals, including correspondent budget.

• Directly supervise three business reporters and correspondents.

• Work with the Managing Editor to lead, initiate and successfully execute hyper local project planning and strategic GateHouse initiatives, including Inner Circle.

• Optimize existing newsroom processes to meet content goals and deadlines, including web.

• Other duties as assigned.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
