NY Times seeks news director for BizDay

New York TimesBizDay is looking for a news director, a newly created leadership role at the center of our daily report.

The news director will be charged with identifying the biggest business stories of the day and driving coverage, with a specific emphasis on breaking news and telling stories for a digital audience. Deep enthusiasm for conceiving new forms of storytelling and reading experiences is as important a qualification as is strong grounding in Times-standard journalism.

This director should be able to craft coverage plans that are well-suited to the evolving ways our readers consume our journalism, and should be at ease with analytic tools that help push audience loyalty, engagement and growth. He or she must also be able to marshal reporters, editors and specialists from the business staff, and the broader newsroom, to create the best and most distinctive business report and reader experience possible.

Candidates should have strong leadership skills, be self-directing and highly collaborative, and possess impeccable news judgment. A demonstrated commitment to business journalism is a must, as is an established record in digital storytelling.

Qualities that come to mind in describing this person? Inspiring. Confident. Collegial. Curious. Passionate. Dynamic.

The news director reports directly to the business editor and her other deputies, and will help define our vision for the report, setting priorities, establishing new systems and ultimately re-envisioning how BizDay puts out the news.
