A fast-paced position in an ever-changing landscape, the editor will work on some of the biggest stories of the moment, like Britain’s exit from the European Union, the trade war with the United States, the tech giants’ regulatory problems in the region, and the general economic uncertainty in places like Italy, Greece and Turkey.
The editor is the first line of defense in Europe, assigning and editing breaking news from around the world. The person, who will report to the International Business Editor, will also have a strong hand in developing features and enterprise from our European correspondents.
It’s a deeply digital role. As we look to expand our storytelling, the work will be varied, helping to push the group into newer forms like explainers and visually driven pieces. Working closely with the international team and the news desk, the person will be responsible for developing coverage strategies, promotion plans and digital approaches on a broad range of topics.
In short, the editor will have a hand in everything that comes through Europe, with significant responsibility for shaping stories and setting the business agenda.
The ideal candidate will have a curiosity in economics and business, although a deep knowledge of those topics isn’t necessary. The person should have strong experience in writing and editing breaking news, along with an interest in developing skills on features.
