NY Times, Ida B. Wells Society announce paid summer internship

The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The New York Times:

The New York Times and the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting have announced the creation of a paid summer internship on The Times’s Investigations desk.

The program will provide one inquisitive, enterprising and nimble student journalist or recent graduate with mentorship from top Times editors and our writing coach. The intern will also receive training on investigative fundamentals and the opportunity to work on projects for the news report.

It is set to be funded through the society, whose mission is to increase the representation and profile of reporters and editors of color in the field of investigative reporting.

The application is now open. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Eastern on April 19. Candidates must be registered members of the Ida B. Wells Society.

Special consideration will be given to journalists from historically underrepresented communities and those currently enrolled or recently graduated from historically Black colleges and universities.

The Ida B. Wells Society, housed at Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, was founded in 2016 by the veteran journalists Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ron Nixon and Topher Sanders. It seeks to provide high-caliber training and resources for journalists of color pursuing investigative work.
