NOTUS is looking for an ambitious reporter to cover federal health policy, whether that be a congressional debate over Medicaid reforms, the rollout of TrumpRx or changes to vaccine schedules.
This reporter should be sourced in relevant federal agencies, among lobbyists, and key lawmakers and staff on Capitol Hill. We want a reporter who is eager to break news, deliver news-driving enterprise stories, investigate the inner workings of key federal agencies and produce impactful work that holds the powerful accountable.

We prefer this person to be based in the D.C. area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and report both breaking news and enterprise stories about federal health policy.
- Maintain deep sourcing among federal officials, stakeholders, and relevant congressional leaders and staff.
- Write clear, smart and incisive copy that details the real-world implications of policy decisions for our core audience of informed readers.
- Work in partnership with editors and other reporters to produce ambitious, newsmaking journalism.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years proven experience reporting, with a preference toward people with experience covering health policy.
- Ability to be a team player with a highly collaborative spirit who works seamlessly with colleagues at various experience levels.
- Desire to serve as an informal mentor and helping hand to early-career journalists at the Allbritton Journalism Institute.
- Proven interest in and ability to discuss reporting on external platforms like cable news, podcasts and live events.
