The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has an opening for a full-time photojournalist who is self-motivated, has a strong work ethic and is willing to take feedback and develop in a dynamic environment. We need a journalist who can document the most important news of the day and illustrate the stories of our community for publication online, in print, replica editions and social media.
The position is based in our Forth Smith Arkansas bureau. This photographer position is part of a six-member photo staff that covers news, sports and features assignments. The coverage includes some University of Arkansas sports.
Applicants must be able to write photo captions using Associated Press style. Experience with Apple computers and programs for photography and multimedia production are a plus.
Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment is required. The photographer will report to the photo editor, but also work closely with other editors and reporters, so communication is an important skill.
This position requires at least two years of professional experience in photography, with work at a daily newspaper preferred. Post-secondary education in journalism or a field related to photography is also preferred. Hours and days will vary. The position requires some night and weekend work and occasional travel. Applicant must have a current driver’s license and auto insurance.
