North Carolina paper seeks economy/growth reporter

The Citizen-Times in Asheville, N.C., is looking for a top-notch journalist to report on issues of growth and the economy.

This is more than a business beat. The right candidate will be able to spot trends, connect dots and tell bigger stories about how the economic engine of this region is changing by the year.

While your ability to mine data will form the backbone of your enterprise stories, you’ll know that the best journalism gets down to a personal level. As Asheville and Appalachia finds itself in transition between an economy based on manufacturing to one based on tourism, how does that affect lives? How will economic winds change this beautiful mountain city? Be ready to tackle stories that dig deep into numbers as well as personalities.

The beat will rely on a combination of these thoughtful stories, peppered through with smaller blips on business comings and goings. While we’re looking for excellent reporters and writers, your ability to handle a camera in a pinch and shoot video is a big plus — we admire versatility.

To apply, go here.
