Sonoma Media Investments, an independent, privately owned multimedia company based in Sonoma County, is seeking a writer for its North Bay Business Journal. Journal readers online and in print enjoy extensive coverage of the people, trends and breaking business news throughout from Napa, Sonoma, and Marin counties.

The latest addition to this creative and aggressive news-gathering team will create content (stories, photos and videos) for our active website while also crafting in depth stories on general trends/topics in the business community for print. Topics include health care, employment, residential real estate but there’s an opportunity to pitch stories of your interest.

Formed by local investors who recognize the value of local journalism, each week, SMI has multiple publications that reach seven out of ten North Bay adults – more than 376,000 in total. The Journal’s approach to offer useful Business-to-Business coverage resonates with our readers – 66% of subscribers are an owner or partner in their company.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Create content including copy, photos and videos suitable for use in print and online.
Be on top of breaking news in assigned areas to contribute multiple times a week to an active website, as well as stories on general trends/topics in the business community for print.
Actively establish a network of sources.
Regularly pitch stories as well pursue assigned stories from editors and/or publisher.
Budgeting stories and maintain calendar of key dates and events in assigned coverage areas.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree of equivalent experience.
At least two years of business news reporting.
Must possess a valid California State Driver’s license, have a relivable vehicle and provide proof of insurance.
Able to input into company electronic information systems.
Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
Knowledge and appreciation of business concepts and requirements as applicable to a media company.
