Nikkei Asia seeks a desk editor in Bangkok

Nikkei Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, is one of the world’s largest financial media groups. We operate a wide range of media platforms, including Japanese-language online media, newspapers, TV stations, and English-language outlets such as Nikkei Asia and the Financial Times.

As part of our ongoing expansion in Southeast and South Asia, we are seeking a Desk Editor to join our Bangkok team. This role primarily involves editing and writing stories from Thailand and across Asia for Nikkei Asia, our flagship English-language publication.

The editor will collaborate closely with reporters and editors across the region, as well as with our Tokyo newsroom, to deliver timely news and in-depth analysis on companies, markets, the economy, and politics.

This position reports to the Editor-in-Chief of the Editorial Headquarters for Asia, based in Bangkok.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of recent experience in financial and business journalism
  • Experience working at a daily news publication
  • Experience at an English-language media outlet
  • Prior editing experience preferred
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment is a plus
  • Portfolio of articles written or edited
  • Legal eligibility to work in Thailand, with documentation available upon request
  • High personal integrity and respect for confidential information
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of Thai is a plus
  • Willingness to work from the Bangkok office
  • Willingness to undergo reference checks
  • Commitment to adhere to company policies, including the code of conduct, and to avoid actions that may harm the company’s brand

Job Type

  • Full-time
  • Flexibility to work on weekends and public holidays when major news breaks

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with regional reporters to produce timely, analytical stories
  • Commission and edit articles with a regional and global perspective
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to reporters
  • Participate in regular editorial meetings with regional and Tokyo teams
  • Pitch feature ideas and new content to enhance Nikkei Asia
  • Write articles when necessary
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sources
  • Additional duties may be assigned in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief and senior editorial staff in Tokyo
