Newsday seeks business reporter

Newsday is looking for an experienced business reporter with sound news judgment, strong writing skills, innovative multimedia skills and a deep understanding of the importance of social media and digital-first publishing.

This person will spend the first hours of morning reporting local news for the web to help grow our business audience during the crucial morning hours. The second half of the day will be spent working on general assignment enterprise.

This job requires:

  • 3-5 years reporting, writing and multimedia experience in business working for major news outlets.
  • Some video experience
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
