News-Press & Gazette Company seeks a weekend anchor/multimedia journalist

Are you ready for a versatile, multi-media journalism experience?

News-Press NOW has an opening for a multimedia journalist who will also serve as a weekend and relief anchor.

Our MMJ’s produce high-quality content for our newspaper, website and news app and broadcast operation. The broadcast operation consists of three network affiliates (FOX 26 KNPN, NBC 21 KNPG and CBS 30 KCJO).

Multimedia journalist duties include:

  • Covering events and reporting in-depth stories
  • Making multimedia skills and reporting experience are both valued.

Responsibilities & Skills:

  • Our reporters focus news and features that lend themselves to multimedia storytelling.
  • In addition, we seek well-rounded journalists who can be tasked with covering other local news topics from time to time.
  • All of our MMJs and anchors are required to sign a standard two-year employment contract and live within the St. Joseph market area.
  • This position could also include duties as Weekend anchor.
  • This includes producing and anchoring 30-minute shows for our 5, 9 and 10 p.m. newscasts.
  • News-Press NOW prefers a college degree with a concentration in convergence or multimedia journalism.
  • Candidates from the Midwest are strongly preferred.

Core requirements should include:

  • A commitment to journalism and multimedia news reporting
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Understanding of journalism ethics, press law and the competitive aspects of daily reporting.
  • We also value the ability to produce on deadline, for both broadcast and print.
  • A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record are also required.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a drug screen and a background check.
