Wind and solar power are increasingly redefining the energy mix in the United States and around the world. Many feel nuclear energy must also be a component of a low-carbon future. New businesses, rivalries, risks and trade-offs are continually emerging in the sector, and the capacity and security of the electric grid have become an increasing concern. All the while old-line players like utilities and coal are struggling to adapt to this new energy order, even as the political climate for fossil fuels is improving.
The candidate we’re seeking will be adept at connecting these threads into illuminating, must-read stories that spot trends, break news, and stake a firm claim to our leadership in this coverage area.
A background in energy coverage is advantageous but not essential. At least as important is a record of distinguished beat reporting and the ability to translate technical subject matter into a solid, stylish body of work. The candidate should be adept at writing in a variety of formats, able to juggle deadline demands with long-term efforts, and both comfortable and creative with a full set of digital and multimedia tools.
