NerdWallet seeks syndication editor

NerdWallet has been around since 2009, helping consumers make smart financial decisions. We cover the spectrum of consumer finance—banking, credit cards, education, health care, insurance, investments, mortgages, shopping, small business, you name it. We’re looking to hire an editor to manage and grow our content partnerships.

Join us, work with a bunch of collegial Nerds and help scale a business that’s rapidly expanding. Among our recent hires: a key VP from LinkedIn, a senior editor from CNN, one of the top recruiters in Silicon Valley, and a physician with an MBA (both degrees from Stanford). Our writers and editors come from outlets such as Bloomberg, Dow Jones, the Los Angeles Times, MarketWatch, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Our content partners include Money.com, Time.com and USA Today. We’re privately held and profitable.

This job is based in downtown San Francisco. Relocation expenses provided.

How you can make an impact:

  • Collaborate with our business teams to identify partnerships of high value and how to leverage those relationships
  • Protect our brand and uphold our high content standards
  • Prioritize and reprioritize effectively
  • Promote the NerdWallet brand by exponentially growing our content partnerships
  • Effectively communicate with partners to deliver quality content to best meet their needs
  • Spot opportunities to expand partnerships with video, infographics, interactive visuals and more
  • Show a strong sense of integrity by making commitments only when we can consistently deliver
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with NerdWallet colleagues to deliver on commitments to content partners
  • Coordinate content delivery to media partners

You:

  • Are an experienced editor who’s great at pitching
  • Effectively work with content partners and build relationships with editors across media
  • Communicate adeptly in person and in writing
  • Are familiar with the rapidly changing world of digital media, know the major players and can identify their core audiences
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change; we’re a successful startup that will continue to innovate and grow

Your experience:

  • At least three years’ journalism experience at an outlet with at least 150,000 daily circulation or 3 million unique users monthly
  • At least two years’ experience working with multiple partners on content
  • Strong experience with SEO
  • Extensive experience with consumer-focused content

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
