NerdWallet seeks investigative reporters

We’re expanding our service journalism to include investigative reporting. We’ve hired a Pulitzer-caliber editor to lead our investigative team. We’re now looking for investigative reporters with a record of breaking stories that have improved society. Specifically, our investigative journalism team will focus on personal finance. We don’t require experience in personal finance for these roles.

Who we are: We’re a profitable startup that’s grown organically since 2009. We bootstrapped our business, starting with our two co-founders. We now have more than 375 employees. We continue to expand and serve an increasing number of consumers. Content is our largest team at NerdWallet because we believe in quality coverage and want to be a trusted resource for generations to come.

What we do: At NerdWallet, we produce user-friendly coverage and tools to help consumers make smart financial decisions. We cover autos, banking, credit cards, health care, household spending, insurance, investing, mortgages, personal loans, shopping, small business, student loans and taxes. We break down complexity and make it easy to understand personal finance. We hear from many consumers that we’re making a difference. It’s also great to hear that partners such as Money.com, USA Today and U.S. News & World Report value the quality of our coverage.

Who works here: We have nearly 90 full-time staff writers and editors. Many of them have worked at outlets such as ABC, Bloomberg, CNN, Dow Jones, ESPN, the Los Angeles Times, MarketWatch, MSN, MSN Money, Reuters, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. What we all have in common: We take initiative. We think strategically. We problem-solve effectively. We’re adaptable. We’re highly collaborative. Roughly half of us work in our offices in downtown San Francisco; roughly half telecommute from across the country. Our editors bios: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/editor-bios/

  • Share reporting and investigative expertise with writers and editors. Collaborate effectively with a team of nearly 90 colleagues.
  • Help build our reputation as a consumer-first company by providing clarity in the often opaque world of personal finance.
