NBCUniversal seeks a managing editor, business, technology & media

NBC News is hiring an experienced editor to lead its Business & Technology unit comprised of correspondents, producers, reporters and editors. The team is responsible for covering national business news, the economy, technology and hard entertainment news for broadcast, streaming and digital.

This editor should have a passion and in-depth understanding of business and technology news, come with a proven record of success in leading a cross platform team and producing both breaking and original reporting across a wide variety of topics. This editor will work closely with editorial leaders across NBC News, including digital, which has its own reporters covering some of the same topics and storylines, and look for opportunities to collaborate with CNBC. The ideal candidate will take on a player coach role with its direct staff.

Job duties: 

  • ​​Supervise and oversee editorial vision each day for both broadcast and digital with an eye for what works for each platform, program and dayside.
  • Work closely with team members to discuss, develop and pitch ideas across the newsroom, running editorial meetings for team, liaising with shows and digital teams
  • Develop and oversee long-term editorial ideas, series and marquee enterprise reporting for television and digital
  • Collaborate on new partnership opportunities within the organization for bigger reporting projects
  • Support the producing, writing and editing of scripts, panel discussions and/or articles, along with major projects.
  • Lead team in major breaking news to produce timely, urgent, exclusive and high-impact work.

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • Exceptional leadership skills, at least three years leading a team, and demonstrated ability to motivate journalists to produce high impact work across a large news organization.
  • At least seven years of experience working at major news organization covering business news and several years of experience working in print and television.
  • Must have excellent journalism, writing, research and production skills with demonstrated strong editorial judgment
  • A track record of breaking big news stories that received national attention or award recognition and spurred change.
  • Familiarity with document- and data-based reporting, news-driven and business investigations, and accountability journalism.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY

Additional Requirements:

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary range: $170,000 – $210,000 (bonus eligible)
