NBC News seeks a business reporter

NBC News is looking for a seasoned, digitally savvy reporter to join our growing Business and Consumer Team. The reporter should be able to cover breaking and developing news. The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and fast writer.

This job will demand a high level of writing skill and original reporting. The candidate should be able to work under pressure, be able to turn stories quickly and thrive in a deadline driven environment. The reporter will work as part of team to produce business coverage, primarily for online. Candidates also must be team players who are comfortable collaborating across platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong original reporting and writing
  • Work with sources on developing story ideas
  • Respond quickly to breaking stories to build out and uncover new angles and information
  • Use data to inform and evolve newsgathering and storytelling 
  • Work as a team player across all NBC News platforms
  • Collaborate with NBC News digital and television units on newsgathering efforts
  • Work with journalists across NBC News to integrate and drive more content
  • Discover, locate and interview newsmakers, eye witnesses and other notable and interesting news subjects
  • Participate in special projects, pitch fresh ideas, and assist senior editors as needed
  • Write clean copy under tight deadline
  • Comfortable appearing on air, as needed

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or English
• Minimum seven years as a reporter or writer at a news organization, or a comparable body of freelance work
• A strong news background, with staff newsroom experience
• Experience covering breaking news in competitive environments
• High comfort level on executing assignments generated by editors
• Excellent writing and reporting skills
• Experience incorporating data in storytelling
• Comfortable collaborating with other reporters on stories
