National Geographic is looking for writers spring travel stories with a superlative and timely hook. Leaning away from people/company profiles, galleries/listicles and food/drink stories.

Deadline: 2 April 2022 (for spring stories)

ABOUT THE COMPANY

National Geographic is a multimedia destination for stories in science, exploration and adventure. Its core purpose is to use the power of science, exploration, education and storytelling to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We love relevant and timely travel articles that provide a deeper look at destinations, trends, and travel experiences through the National Geographic lenses of science, culture and history, wildlife and wild spaces, conservation, and community.

I am personally obsessed with adventure in the Mid-West/Great Plains, reported features, saying “ohhhh I didn’t know that,” inclusive travel, and the intersection of travel, community, and conservation. Before you pitch, carefully consider the kinds of travel stories we publish.
