My Horry News seeks a reporter, Myrtle Beach

MyHorryNews.com is searching for an experienced reporter ready for a challenge covering the Myrtle Beach area, one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

The beat includes growth and development, business, tourism-related issues, surrounding community concerns and poverty on the fringes of the new high rises.

The ideal candidate is someone who will keep readers informed about what is happening in the Myrtle Beach area. This candidate must have an understanding of how city government and county government functions and what that coverage means.

This position requires a person with high energy and curiosity who is not afraid to ask questions and challenge the norm.

Responsibilities:

  • Produces stories for our website and print publications, including the weekly cover stories for print publications
  • Works directly with the editor to plan stories and projects
  • Attends city meetings and relevant events around Myrtle Beach
  • Occasionally taking photos and videos

Requirements:

  • Must possess strong writing skills and knowledge of AP Style
  • Previous newsroom experience preferred
  • Experience with covering city governments preferred
  • Must be able to work with the newsroom and adapt to assignment changes. We’re a small team and when major news happens (hurricanes, floods, protests), we take an all-hands-on-deck approach.

Please send your resume, cover letter and three of your best stories to editor Hannah Strong Oskin at hannah.oskin@myhorrynews.com.
