Morningstar seeks copy editor in Chicago

In this role, you will edit a broad range of materials produced by the Research group for use across the Morningstar platforms. The copy editor will also be responsible for formatting and publishing editorial content to the Morningstar.com website.

This position is based in our Chicago office.

Responsibilities

  • Edit materials for consistency and correctness in grammar, spelling, logic, and content under deadline pressure.
  • Help manage the editorial workflow through a Web-publishing system.
  • Ensure copy is formatted properly and meets Morningstar’s standards and style.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least three years of related work experience.
  • Excellent editing skills as proven through experience and the successful completion of Morningstar’s editing test.
  • Ability to edit for content.
  • Experience in Web publishing.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage workflow, multitask, take on new projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with InDesign and Excel is helpful.
  • Strong interest in investing subject matter; experience in editing finance or business copy is a plus.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
