Morning Consult seeks editor for health, energy and financial industries

Morning Consult is hiring an experienced editor to lead and manage our data-driven coverage and daily email briefings for the health, energy and financial industries and policy. We are looking for someone with at least several years of experience covering one or more of the policy areas, preferably with management experience. The editor will also work closely with the rest of the editorial team on editing enterprise stories, opinion submissions and managing reporters.
Success in this role requires excellent editing skills, news judgment and time-management abilities, as well as an understanding of business trends and government policy. Most of all, ideal candidates will be able to put themselves in the shoes of their audience to strategically identify and synthesize the news topics critical to industry executives and government officials.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop enterprise story ideas with reporters, with a focus on the intersection of policy and industry
• Help guide data-driven journalism features
• Serve as editor in chief’s deputy, overseeing the newsroom when editor in chief is away
• Uphold high editorial standards for articles, ensuring they are fair and provide necessary context and information for readers
• Edit and send email policy briefs, news articles and enterprise features
• Publish reporters’ stories to Morning Consult’s news page throughout the day when needed
• Continuously improve through feedback
Desired Skills:
• 8+ years’ experience covering government policy or business, preferably with some management experience
• Understanding of and interest in the financial, health and energy industries and related government policy
• Excellent writing and editing abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently while paying strict attention to detail
• Ability to motivate and mentor young reporters
• Excellent computer skills and comfort learning advanced technical tools
• Ability to work early in the morning when necessary and under tight deadlines
• Experience working with survey research/polling data is a plus
