Morning Consult seeks a brands reporter

Morning Consult is hiring a reporter to write Morning Consult Brands, a daily email briefing focused on the news and trends in the advertising, marketing and retail industries.

We are searching for a candidate who can expertly curate industry news, data, events, and commentary to provide the influential decision-makers who read the newsletter with the information they need to start their day. The reporter will also write forward-looking features about these sectors to provide insight and analysis, often incorporating Morning Consult’s proprietary survey search data or other outside data. This job will be based in either New York City or Washington, D.C.

Success in this role requires superb news judgment, an understanding of trends in marketing, advertising and retail industries, and an unrelenting attention to detail. Most of all, ideal candidates will be able to put themselves in the shoes of their audience to strategically identify and synthesize the news topics critical to industry executives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate daily morning newsletter focused on brands, marketing, advertising and other topics related to consumer behavior and consumption trends
  • Write features and analyses about trends and developments in these sectors
  • Create charts and graphics using Morning Consult’s proprietary survey research and other data to be included in the email briefs and across Morning Consult’s digital channels
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and their effect on business strategy
  • Continuously improve through feedback

Desired Skills:

  • 1-3 years of experience as a reporter
  • Excellent writing abilities
  • Understanding of and interest in the advertising and marketing industries
  • Ability to work early in the morning and under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while paying strict attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills and a willingness to learn advanced technical tools
  • Experience working with survey research/polling data is a plus
