Montana daily seeks business reporter
The Billings Gazette needs an experienced reporter to lead coverage of the dynamic and growing business community in Billings and eastern Montana.
While much of the nation struggles to recover, Billings’ economy is growing rapidly and eastern Montana is being radically reshaped by the Bakken oil boom. Those aren’t just stories about earnings and employees – those are stories about how communities grow, change and what forces are fueling this growth. This beat is responsible for a plenty of stories, including the daily comings and going of retailers to the larger thoughtful trend pieces that don’t just tell about the business community, but actually explain why it’s growing, changing or the challenges of change.
The next business reporter will have previous journalism experience and a track record (with clips) that demonstrates the ability to handle a heavy workload as well as proven time management skills that will allow him or her to get to those larger, deeper issue pieces.
The Billings Gazette is an award winning paper that covers a huge portion of Montana and Wyoming. Billings is close to skiing, hiking, Yellowstone National Park and the Little Bighorn Battlefield. It’s growing and has an eclectic arts and music scene. It’s also the kind of place where you can get a great beer and pretty darn good meal. Billings has many of the things you’d want in a larger city, but you can still see the stars at night or find nearby trails to hike.
