Money seeks an editor for insurance coverage

Money.com seeks an editor to oversee our insurance coverage from a personal finance perspective.

From health to auto to life insurance, Americans pay billions in premiums each year, making the insurance industry one of the largest areas of Americans’ financial lives. But with complicated terms, opaque pricing and questionable sales tactics, it is also one of the least understood. This editor should understand complicated financial products and help educate people about making sound insurance decisions, while telling stories in an often under-reported industry. A data-driven approach to storytelling is a must.

This role will work closely with our senior editors, audience development, product, art and design and video teams to bring our content to a broader audience while maintaining the authority that the Money brand is known for.

We are a fun, creative and transparent organization, where everyone has access to our executive team – learning important business skills, taking part in major decisions and experiencing life in a rapidly growing online media environment.

You will:

  • Oversee Money’s insurance vertical
  • Serve as lead editor on Money’s collection of ‘Best Of’ insurance pages, which explain how insurance products work and guide readers to the products that are right for them
  • Take complicated insurance subjects and translate them into compelling, engaging stories that are understandable, actionable and interesting
  • Report and write stories when needed— quick-turn articles, analysis of breaking news and features about insurance
  • Work with freelancers and staff reporters to ensure this beat is covered weekly

You have:

  • 4+ years of editing experience
  • A passion for personal finance and informing consumers in a way that will help them improve their financial lives
  • Experience covering the insurance industry or another area of financial services such as banking or capital markets
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
