MLex seeks an antitrust reporter in Washington

MLex is seeking a reporter in Washington, DC, to cover antitrust regulation, legislation and enforcement with a significant focus on the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission.

The ideal candidate will have some experience covering Congress, the federal court system and state or federal agencies.

MLex is a highly collaborative environment, and the reporter will frequently work with reporters focused on similar topics in Brussels, São Paulo, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong and elsewhere. The job offers opportunities to break news on topics such as merger reviews, criminal investigations, labor market monopsony, standard-essential patents, price-fixing, tying and bid-rigging schemes. The successful candidate will have the ability to write in-depth stories about the implications of legislative, regulatory and judicial matters.

An MLex reporter must be able to:

• Write clear, well-organized news stories and analysis
• Locate and organize relevant information from public documents and other sources
• Write one-paragraph summaries identifying key information in those documents
• Create and modify portfolios with relevant information
• Coordinate with reporters and editors to ensure that portfolios are complete

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or legal background

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong writing skills and a demonstrated ability to be proactive in shaping MLex’s coverage
• Background in law and/or experience in news or legal organizations
• Ability to provide analysis of events and documents, illuminating context and big-picture trends
