About the Role
The beat involves coverage of artificial intelligence regulation, focusing on the UK. MLex seeks to get ahead of the procedural story through deep-dive analyses of legislation to anticipate where regulatory risks may lie. It’s a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation that you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking analysis that helps inform decision-makers.
MLex is a real-time newswire, and the successful candidate will be expected to turn around urgent copy quickly. You must be able to spot stories that will appeal to MLex’s broad, demanding readership.
We also publish in-depth reporting and commentary, and you will be expected to identify risks posed by legislation ahead of our competitors and use this expertise to write in-depth, impactful investigations and commentary pieces.
You will work with our Senior AI Correspondent to lead coverage of artificial intelligence in the UK, while working closely with colleagues in other bureaux and the broader data privacy and security team.
Responsibilities:
- Research, report, and write clear, accurate news and analysis on AI regulation in the UK
- Conduct interviews and turn around urgent copy to tight deadlines
- Identify stories that matter to a specialist, professional readership
- Contribute in‑depth investigations and commentary on legislative and regulatory risk
- Support colleagues through research and collaborative coverage
- Use established processes and tools to manage routine reporting tasks
Requirements:
- Experience in journalism, reporting, publishing, or a closely related field
- Strong interest in artificial intelligence and its regulatory or policy impact
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to explain complex topics clearly and concisely
- Confidence working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
- Fluency in written and spoken English; additional European languages are a plus
