MLex is looking for an experienced tech/telco correspondent to contribute to our growing European coverage of the major emerging regulatory risks in digital services.
Purpose of the role:
The role is a new one, as we build out our existing digital-risk team across the globe, with parallel expansion taking place in North America and Asia.
The successful candidate will be a senior point person in MLex for European regulatory risk issues from data protection, privacy and cybersecurity to issues surrounding communications connectivity (IoT, net neutrality etc).
The senior correspondent will coordinate on a day to day basis with a senior colleague in London and a correspondent in Brussels, under the guidance of the Global Chief Correspondent in San Francisco, but reporting to the Brussels Managing Editor.
There’ll also be frequent collaboration on stories with colleagues in Brussels and across the global network as digital issues arise on beats such as antitrust and financial services.
Key result areas:
Complement and enhance our existing Data, Privacy & Security and Tech, Media and Telecom coverage
Become a senior voice of authority within the company and to the outside world on the beat
Key competencies:
The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of the tech and telecom beat, preferably with a track record in covering issues such as data protection, cybersecurity, and connectivity.
Some knowledge of the regulatory/policy sphere is an advantage, but it’s more important to display knowledge of the technology itself.
Mother-tongue English is required, and ability in other European languages will be taken into account.
The candidate should have experience of working in a fast-paced newsroom environment such as a newswire or major newspaper, with a proven history of breaking news.
