MLex is seeking a copy editor to work in Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA.
A Copy Editor writes or rewrites headlines and reads copy, adjusting it for style, accuracy and clarity.
Accountabilities:
Line edit copy, not merely with an eye toward story organization, spelling and grammar, but to ensure that content achieves MLex standards of insight and exclusivity.
Provide guidance to reporters on editorial policies.
Help establish and enforce style guidelines.
Coordinate with newsletter editors and reporters.
Perform production tasks related to newsletters.
Confer with other editors and the Managing Editor to ensure proper handling of copy.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or a related field.
Two years of full-time copy editing experience at a news organization.
Exceptional skills in grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax and vocabulary.
Extreme attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Business or legal reporting or editing experience is preferred.
DC copy desk shift: 12pm – 9pm (ET)
San Francisco copy desk shift: 9:30am – 6:30pm (PT)
