Minneapolis Star Tribune seeks assistant biz editor

The Star Tribune is seeking an energetic and highly skilled business journalist to lead a savvy team of reporters to greater heights. We are looking for someone with proven leadership skills and a desire to produce sophisticated journalism – online and in print – through planning, mentoring and editing.

You can’t find a much more dynamic market to pursue business journalism than the Twin Cities – with more Fortune 500 companies per capita than any other metro area in the U.S. We have major companies in every sector of the economy – from retail (Best Buy and Target) to financial services (U.S. Bancorp) to manufacturing (3M) to energy (Xcel).

The Twin Cities is a progressive place, and our readers have high expectations for their business news coverage. And the Star Tribune takes its business journalism very seriously. Our team of 18 writers and four editors produces stand-alone business sections seven days a week, A1 enterprise stories, special projects and a robust digital report. We even have a full-time business reporter based in Washington D.C.

The assistant business editor will be responsible for helping manage the business department’s daily operations as well as long-term planning.

This position is covered under our contract with the Newspaper Guild and pays $76,232.

Qualifications

Minimum of five to 10 years’ experience is required. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in business and have demonstrated the ability to develop strong beat coverage as well as enterprise work. Our next business editor will have a track record as an aggressive, yet thoughtful journalist with the ability to help lead a team of reporters to the next level. Must also be able to work in a team environment in partnership with other business editors, copy editors, photographers and designers. Previous editing experience preferred.
