Minneapolis paper seeks retail reporter

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is looking for a sharp-minded, energetic reporter to cover the retail industry, a marquee business beat in the Twin Cities and the largest sector of the U.S. economy.

The retail beat is anchored by Twin Cities-based Target and Best Buy, two of Minnesota’s 19 Fortune 500 companies. Business coverage is one of the Star Tribune’s strengths, and our award-winning section boasts 18 staff writers plus a stable of talented editors intent on doing meaningful work. We need an aggressive retail reporter who can navigate major corporations and uncover compelling, exclusive national business stories.

This reporter will be expected to produce insightful stories about consumer behavior, shopping trends and marketing strategies. The retail reporter will produce a full range of coverage online and in print, including strong daily news stories, a blog and outstanding enterprise for A1 and the Sunday Business section.

This position is covered under our contract with the Newspaper Guild. A reporter with at least five year’s experience would make at least $69,152

This is a high-profile beat with national ambitions. We are looking for experienced journalists who have demonstrated an ability to produce compelling and sophisticated stories, as well as having a knack for creating digital content and opportunities to engage readers via social media. Ideal candidates will be expected to build a diverse network of sources – from CEOs to front-line employees to academics to regulators.
