The Holland Sentinel, a six-day daily print and digital publication in West Michigan, is looking for an energetic newshound with a complete toolbox.
This beat entails covering our local businesses, tourism and many healthy nonprofit organizations. Sure, we want daily stories, but we’re looking for a journalist who also can spot larger stories and trends that affect our individual communities — then explain them to our readers.
The ideal candidate must have a strong writing background, be able to shoot photos and video, and have a working knowledge of social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Storify, as well as Adobe Photoshop. Clean writing and AP style are essential. A degree in journalism and previous newspaper experience are preferred.
Most essential is a willingness to work hard to keep the newspaper a vital part of its community.
The Holland Sentinel serves the thriving Holland/Zeeland region of approximately 110,000 people in West Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our coverage area is the lower half of Ottawa County and the northern half of Allegan County. Home to international companies such as Haworth, Gentex, Herman Miller, Johnson Controls, LG Chem and many others, our community has a very diverse employment base. With Hope College as a part of the center-city area, our quality of life is second to none. Holland is also a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months.
