Mic seeks senior writer for Money team

Mic is looking for a highly motivated, passionate senior writer to join our Money team. The senior money writer will write, podcast and appear in video — and be able to excel across all mediums. This applicant should have experience covering a money beat — and interest in personal finance, business or any type of explanatory financial journalism.

Requirements:

  • Ability to create clean, high-quality copy under tight deadlines
  • Experience with and a passion for original reporting — and a knack for pitching ideas that other publications aren’t already chasing
  • Have a stable of sources
  • Interest in appearing on camera
  • Social media savvy, able to monitor Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Reddit, and wherever else news for breaking and trending story opportunities can be found
  • Comfortable with data-driven storytelling
  • Quick learner with ability to perform well in high-pressure situations
  • Eager to experiment and create new story formats

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
