Mic is looking for writers to submit pitches on many topics.

Mic seeks to amplify stories that matter—from politics and culture to social justice and social media—and to examine their impact on people’s diverse lives. It aims to elevate the voices of the underrepresented with reporting and content that fuels curiosity, creativity, and change.

Mic is accepting pitches for feature-length stories. Please make sure your pitch fits into one of the following areas:

  • Culture covers arts and entertainment with a focus on how it interacts with the real world outside of screens — through identity, social justice, and politics. The subjects we cover include music, TV, film, books, comedy, NFTs, memes, sports, video games, and fashion.
  • Impact covers politics in all forms: social politics, activist politics, climate politics, health politics, identity politics. This section tells stories about immigration, health care, climate change, reproductive rights, criminal justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights.
  • Life tells real human stories with candor and keen observation. It covers health and lifestyle, food, money, consumerism, travel, career, and wellness.
  • Identity tells deeply reported stories at the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, and culture.

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

  •  Between 1200 and 2500 words, with rates starting at $400 for short essays and 50 cents a word for reported features, depending on a writer’s experience and expertise.
