Mergermarket seeks Chicago-based investigative reporter

Mergermarket is an online, subscription-based news service read by over 100,000 individual subscribers and has more than 150 reporters around the world. It specializes in providing forward-looking articles focused on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), IPOs, corporate strategy initiatives, and industry trends.

The company now has an opening for an investigative business reporter based in the Chicago area.

Ideal applicants will have at least two years’ experience as a business reporter, have the ability to probe executives and other sources to really understand a company’s strategy, and to produce a steady flow of copy.

Good contacts among venture capitalists, industry executives, and bankers, are a definite plus. An inquisitive demeanor and the ability to produce several stories per week are musts.

This position is home-based.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
