Mercury News seeks a housing reporter

July 10, 2019

Posted by Chris Roush

The Bay Area News Group has an immediate opening for an energetic reporter and exceptional story teller interested in joining our top-notch housing team.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about a topic that has the attention of anyone who lives or works in the Bay Area, whether they are newcomers or long-time residents, young or old, rich or poor, renters or homeowners. You should be an experienced self-starter who can mine sources to develop a steady stream of daily news coverage and deeper enterprise for online and print platforms. You should be equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

You will be responsible for covering the many ways housing — or the lack of it — defines the Bay Area, developing sources among policy-makers, housing advocates, renters, landlords, buyers, real estate agents and employers in the South Bay, East Bay and the Peninsula. You should be comfortable analyzing data, identifying trends, connecting the dots between local decisions and state policies and telling stories that reflect why housing has become the issue that defines the past, present and future of the Bay Area.

The successful candidate will have at least three years’ experience in daily journalism and preferably prior experience writing about housing or real estate. Interested? Email your resume, five clips and a cover letter highlighting your vision for the job to newsjobs@bayareanewsgroup.com to convince us why you’re the right person to join our housing team.
